In light of Sprink's suggestion of Discord, an official Lavender Town Discord channel has been set up and is open to the public! Naturally, these forums will be maintained however it has been increasingly apparently that Discord is the best way for rapid interaction coupled with social cohesion when it comes to video games.

As a result, I believe it would be fitting to extend an invite link to any involved.

Join the Lavender Town Discord Channel Today!

6 floors, a legacy, and a community that has become this ghost town.
Posted by: Sprink - 11-01-2015 02:10 PM - Replies (2)

Though there's really no point in writing here, I thought I'd do so.

Mostly, this website's uptime serves as a time capsule of what was. A flourished community that we've all enjoyed spending a small portion of our day to browsing, posting, and nourishing. Over countless efforts, the higher ups lost interest, motivation, and the time to actually contribute. We've had lives develop, relationships to maintain, school to attend, or work to go to. Though with the website's inevitable perishing came a bittersweet moment, we all like to remember the community at its best, rather than looking at what we've tried to prevent.

As an Administrator, I'm not going to play on like the voluntary work was a side job or occupation that took hours off of my life to organize, sort, brainstorm for and execute actions in. It was a small hobby. I enjoyed making forums work. Zukdeen had a vision, but had little time, so I helped him from the sides.

Shadow, Pika, and many of the reporters have done their part as well. As a collective bunch we wanted to add content to this community, build on it, and see something that we deemed as a successful project.

Unfortunately, every time we built, it got demolished. Domain difficulties, spam attacks, you name it. Things kicked this community down and dwindled it to what we knew it as in the end.

To all former staff, and all former friends, best of luck in your paths. Zukdeen, good luck in school. You brought a group of people together and created a fond memory of our early adult hoods, late adolescences, and early adolescences.

To anyone reading this, take a gander at this little time capsule while it's here. It may not fully be the past, but it's the closest thing you can get to it.

  4 Years
Posted by: Pika~Boo74 - 09-12-2015 03:36 AM - Replies (3)

I have no idea if this deserves to be in the news section, but I'm going to put it here anyway. Regardless of who does and doesn't read it. I'd like everyone to read this if they have the spare time and potentially let me know what you think. So here goes -

On September 11th, 2011, I was on my PSP in a McDonald's restaurant. Connecting to the Wi-Fi there with my system's built-in browser was one of the only methods for me to use the internet. I stumbled upon a random site suggested by F-yeah Pokemon Creepypasta on Tumblr - The 6th Floor Forums. It had some history involving Pokemon Creepypastas, which were a HUGE interest of mine at the time. I quickly signed up with a ridiculously stupid username and a random set of numbers - Pika~Boo74. That very action set a chain of reactions to follow in the coming months and years that have been very significant in my life, and I'm sure in the lives of many other users as well. Some of these things are indeed private, something you may not expect from a public site, but regardless, they've helped form a foundation for who I am and how I react to certain situations in the future.

In the interest of time, I'll try to keep this to the point. It's been 4 years since I joined that website. That was the original Lavender Town. It then became PokeLegacy in 2012, and then emerged back into The 6th Floor later on, and in March of 2013, Lavender Town was born out of that second rebirth of that great site. We lost a LOT of members due to the shift in momentum and a lot of problems due to website hosting errors, server crashes, and even the deletion of a major portion of the entire website. Lavender Town in itself is probably the most stable version of the original website to date. Though through every major change, every significantly different modification, and every technical issue we've had, I stayed loyal to the site and returned no matter what. Each iteration brought with it a new way to look at the world. That may sound stupid to you, it's just a website about Pokemon and creepy stories involving Pokemon. To me though, it's so much more. The experiences, the fun, the journies this website has taken me on have been all different in their own right and have brought different ways to approach the world as a whole. There is this constant reminder in my mind that without this site's creator, Zukdeen, and the many versions of The 6th Floor that have existed, I would be a very different person today. Had I not stumbled across The 6th Floor, many things regarding the site itself would likely be different as well. Though it's clearly uncertain what would be different, there are many implications that things would be. For example, I have no indication as to who else really would have cared enough to take care of the forums for some time before Rob willingly stepped in to help and practically take over, for which I'm personally very grateful.

I know I haven't gone too into detail involving how this site has shaped my life, as they are somewhat personal reasons, but telling you this can potentially give you some insight towards the impact simple things can have on YOUR life. I have spent the greater part of the last 4 years on this site, something I never expected back in 2011. And trust me, I've still got quite a bit of growing to do. That shouldn't discourage me or anyone from looking at things subjectively, though. The many changes this site has gone through, the many people that have come and gone in the course of the last 4 years, I'm grateful for everything that has happened up to this point.

Hell, maybe one day, Lavender Town can reclaim the glory The 6th Floor once had... Though until then, thank you all for an amazing last 4 years. Here's to what the future may potentially hold! Smile

  Server Move
Posted by: Rob - 05-09-2015 03:30 PM - Replies (1)

Hello there guys and gals, I have finally managed to get everything transferred correctly over to the new server. I wish to apologise for the fact that there has been quite a good deal of downtime for Lavender Town, but please understand that I was having to balance academic assignments and personal pursuits while making sure everything was configured correctly.

Everything from the old server has been transferred across so nothing is broken. There should no longer be any 503 errors popping up (if you do get any errors of any kind, please feel free to provide details in the topic for this news piece.

Now, the rationale for moving server is quite simple:

  • More bandwidth
  • More webspace
  • Ability to scale webspace better
  • More addon domains
  • More RAM
  • More freedom over what can be included on the webspace

Ultimately, I have switched the hosting for Lavender Town from a shared host to a VPS host. What this means is that I will be able to provide the ability to grant hosting to members who would like webspace for a project they are running or anything which could be deemed suitable for the community to host.

Needless, I apologise for any downtime that has been suffered while transferring assets across, but believe me that Lavender Town will not be down one moment longer!

Thank you,

  Lavender Town Pokémon Tournament! [PC]
Posted by: Pika~Boo74 - 08-21-2014 11:28 AM - Replies (19)

Hello there Lavender Town members, and guests alike! I've been planning a small event like this for a while now, and I finally have all of the necessities to make it happen! (The most important being a faster internet connection, which I finally got a while back) So hopefully without further delay, here we have, the Lavender Town Pokémon Tournament!

Now, this tournament will not be for the 3DS titles, Pokémon X and Y, or any of the Pokémon titles on the DS. This tournament will hopefully be available to some more people because it will be on PC! That's right, we'll be using Pokémon Showdown!

There are two well-known battle simulators that are commonly used by the more competitive players in Pokémon (Pokémon Online and Pokémon Showdown), but they're also used somewhat by the casual players looking to have some fun!

So, here's how things went down regarding software choice. Upon further inspection, it's clear that Showdown is more fleshed out than Pokémon Online, works more smoothly, and is an overall improvement to Pokémon Online's simulation engine. So, if you're planning on participating, you should likely download Pokémon Showdown. If you're used to Pokémon Online, this should certainly NOT be a big change!

[Image: pokiman_chaudaun_logo_by_jonyxmass-d71eqkg.png]

So, how will you get the Pokémon? For those unfamiliar with the software, here's how it works: You are allowed to pick from over 700 Pokémon in the Team Builder. You can choose practically ANY Pokémon (read down below in the "Restrictions" for more info) and give them ANY moves, as long as they're moves that Pokémon can actually learn. You can give them practically ANY item (again, read "Restrictions" below for more details) and then you can battle it out with other people!

Onto how the tournament will play out. There are very limited spaces, so first come, first serve. The tournament bracket with all of the names will be uploaded as soon as all the players sign up. "How many players will be participating?" you may be asking. Well, kind stranger, I'll tell you! For this first tournament, there will be ONLY 4 spots available. No more than 4, unfortunately. 2 will battle against one another, 1 will move on. Another 2 will battle against each other, 1 more will move on. Those who lose will battle each other for 3rd place, and those who win will battle each other for 1st and 2nd place! I will be spectating the battle to see how it unfolds and I will be personally congratulating the winners who will move on.

So Pika, mind telling us what the benefits of winning the Tournament are? Well, I wish I could, but it's a secret for now. Only the 1st place winner will be receiving a prize in this tournament, so anyone who participates should definitely try their best to win that prize! Big Grin

Here are the restrictions I've placed on what Pokémon can and can't be used -
  • Shiny Pokémon - ALLOWED
  • Mega Evolutions - ALLOWED
  • Legendary Pokémon - PARTIALLY ALLOWED
  • Held Items - ALLOWED
  • Berries - NOT ALLOWED

The legendary Pokémon allowed are any who utilize Mega Stones for Mega Evolution. This only includes Mewtwo.

For now, that is all of the information I have that is necessary for this tournament. A sign-up thread is available in the >Pokémon Trade and Battle Station< Forum. For any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to PM me directly or post a reply in this thread! Thanks for reading, and hope you participate!
